Pop/rock Band Jag Star Wins ‘Next Big Hit’ Competition — Now Featured Artist on iTunes Music Store

Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) July 17, 2007

Pop/rock band Jag Star was just named the winner of the NEXT BIG HIT competition. As a result, they are now featured on the front page of iTunes for a week. “This is priceless!” says lead singer and songwriter Sarah Lewis. “We are thrilled to get this kind of exposure and we’ve definitely worked our butts off to get here!” Their song, “Missed Out”, from their latest album, “The Best Impression of Sanity”, was the winning song and is available now for download on iTunes.

Thousands of independent artists submitted their music for the contest. 144 finalists were played in the competition. Jag Star stood tall above all of them as the final winner was determined by a mix of voting and listener reviews. Lewis continued, “Next Big Hit has been great to us — we’ve made a lot of new fans by being featured on their podcasts!”

“We were hoping the system would lead to a winner that was commercially accessible as well as talented musically. Our winner certainly meets our hopes for the contest. In fact, Jag Star’s album is one of my favorite albums of the past year or two,” said DJ Copperhead, host and producer of Next Big Hit. “I have no idea how the entire major label industry has ‘Missed Out’ on how undeniable talented AND commercial this act is… I hope that is about to change,” he added.

The contest promised the winning artist a feature on the front page of the iTunes music store for a week as well as promotional packages from Ariel Publicity and Evolution Promotions.

“I see so many contests that offer a little cash or, worse… a [meaningless] ‘record deal’. We wanted to offer a contest where the prize would be something that could be meaningful to an artist’s career on their own terms,” said Dave Shapiro, co-producer of Next Big Hit. “Evolution and Ariel do fantastic work for indie artists, and iTunes is now one of the top five music retailers in America. A front page feature on their website is like having distribution of your CDs in every Wal-Mart with an End-Cap in every store.”

The contest is just the icing on the cake for an act that has racked up many accolades and film/tv placements on their own. Over the past 6 years, they’ve released 3 albums independently, with songs featured all over television including NBC, MTV, Lifetime, Disney, Oxygen, A & E, Travel, ABC Family, etc… They’ve toured the U.S. and 15 countries, including playing concerts overseas for the U.S. troops in Afghanistan. They’ve had support from commercial radio, a rare achievement for an indie band. Lewis was recently named the new face of “wet ‘n wild” cosmetics and appears in their national ad campaign, currently seen in Cosmo, Seventeen, Jane, and Lucky magazines. She has won numerous songwriting competitions, and currently composes background music for a new MTV show. Jag Star has shared the stage with Joan Jett, Lifehouse, Dashboard Confessional, Michelle Branch, Bowling For Soup, etc.. and this summer they will play concerts to their ever growing fanbase in New York, Texas, Connecticut, California and more….
